The middle-sized company K.U.M. Umwelt- und Meerestechnik Kiel GmbH was founded in 1997 and is located in Kiel directly at the border of Kiel Bay / Baltic Sea.

Beside development, design and production of a considerable number of instruments for marine engineering that predominantly are in use for science and research purposes but also for industrial ones, K.U.M. also offers different services, e.g. support and operators on research vessel, on-the-field training and learning-by-doing, personal consultation and realization of special requirements in close collaboration with the customer.  

The product range encompasses complete OBS-Systems, Lander-Systems, Sediment Traps, Sedimentcorers, Dredges and Sediment Core Storage Systems as well as Pressure Tubes, Camera Housings, Releasers, Drives, Shackles, Swivels and other products mainly made from titanium. 
This corrosion-free, pressure-proof material of utmost high quality makes K.U.M. an international renowned partner especially in the field of deep sea investigations up to 6000m depth or more. From the smallest screw over pressure tubes of different lengths and diameters to complete instrument carriers are the devices in titanium available.

An important focus of K.U.M. activity is the continuously progressing development of Ocean-Bottom-Seismometer-Systems for the detection of subsea seismic movements (seaquakes). The youngest OBS-generation is equipped with the titanium releaser KUMQuat (see right), that  embodies lightweightness, smallness, handyness and multi-functionality.
